Love and Light Devotional Series Day 2
For Day 1’s content, follow this link.
This is a devotional series on encouraging love and light in your daily walk with God. This is day two’s devotional on fanning the flame of your faith to a greater fire.
Fan the Flame
God’s power manifests through fuel (His Word) and oxygen flow (His Spirit) to fan into flame the gifts He has given us. When we yield our life, putting aside all our ambitions to incline our hearts to what the Father is doing, we will see the fire of our love for Him expand. It’s not meant to stay tucked away as dying embers. The fire in our hearts for our fascination and wonder of our Creator is meant to grow and spread to those around us.
The benefits of having a relationship with Christ are numerous. There are treasures at His right hand, intimacies of things untold that He reveals and entrusts to us, and power in which He saves others by the spreading of His gospel. These are all parts of the blessings of knowing Him personally. The spiritual giftings He bestows on each of us are another benefit. They’re enjoyable to have and experience.
This gift of God – our faith – coupled with the expressible giftings He gives us, is an influential and influenceable thing. We can influence ourselves and others with the power, love, and sound mind His spirit gives us. Contrarily, we can be influenced by fear and complacency and let our faith flame diminish. Every circumstance you face today will allow you to fan the flame, feed your fears, and discourage your faith.
Choosing faith over fear in righteousness is not the same as doing the right thing in our own power or way. Choosing faith to please God comes from a humble heart asking God for His Lordship. He desires to reign in our lives from moment to moment. Identifying the moments we are offered the choice to respond is not always easy. We too easily get caught up in the day’s activities and go on autopilot.
Instead, moment to moment, task to task, consider, and pause for consultation with Jesus. Ask for His wisdom, enlightenment, and boldness to do what He calls you to do. In constant communication with Him, invite His strength to blow on our faith flame. Then, watch Him grow that fire into a greater witness to His glory.
Verses to Fan the Flame:
“For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” 2 Timothy 1:6-7
“And without faith, it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.” Hebrews 11:6
Love in Action:
Throughout the day, before choosing an action, pause and ask the Lord to help you choose a faith-filled response that will glorify Him.
