Show Me Your Cares and I’ll Show You A God Who Cares

I realize not everyone reading this believes there’s a God, let alone a God who is intricately obsessed with every part of our being. So if you’re doubting the premise of this post, which is the fact that God cares about you, open your mind to the possibility that a benevolent, all-powerful, omnipotent Being has every intention of helping you. As it states in the Bible, He is for us (Romans 8:31). Now then, that settled…why wouldn’t we cast our cares on to the One who cares for us so?

The following list is reasons we need to cast our cares on to God:

Reason #1: He cares for us. If God is who He says He is – namely, Love – then by logical conclusion He isn’t going to give up on us for Love, “bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails…” (1 Corinthians 13:7-8) Name one person who has NEVER given up on you? If you can name one, you’re blessed. I don’t mean someone who’s never disappointed, but to NEVER give up on you…it may be a parent, or a grandparent, but surely people are flawed and can stop believing in you at some point?

The thing is, God doesn’t. Ever. He believes in you, hopes for you, endured the cross for you. Take a good look at that Man on that cross you maybe knew of, but imagine He is up there for you. That’s because He was. Why would He surrender His will to the cross if He didn’t care for you? But He did and He does. He counts and numbers each hair on your head, catches every tear that falls, knows when some random bird has fallen. He is in love with His creation. You.

Reason #2: He fights for us. And the battle is real! Put your heart out to Him. He’s the one guarding and watching over you and I. Communicate your sorrows, hurts, pains. Express your fears, dreams, hopes. If you can’t be vulnerable to the One who knows you the most, it’s going to be hard to see Him working to accomplish good things for you. When we are eager and earnestly seek to cast and roll our burdens onto Jesus, He takes them and does justice to them. Imagine your favorite Superhero wants to save you, but you’re too wrapped up in fighting the Enemy yourself, and that’s a no-brainer: it’s not going to end too good.

I’ve really blown it on this one before. I thought I could fight Satan himself with all the “authority” I had. You have to be careful going into spiritual warfare, if you don’t know what you’re doing. I sure didn’t, and this cupcake got creamed. Granted, I wasn’t stable mentally and that just made me more vulnerable, but Jesus is our Shield, and as He says, His Word is the Sword of the Spirit. Had I kept my worries and concerns for my health to myself, and not reached out to Him, I don’t know where I’d be. (Another reason why stuffing your feelings isn’t good)

Reason #3: He grows and stretches us. Growing up has its drawbacks. We leave behind carefree bliss for responsibility and wisdom, at the cost of personal hardship and mistakes. But I don’t believe all mistakes are inherently bad. I think God allows them to help us learn there’s a better way and that His way is ultimately the best. Now, of course we can be stubborn and refuse to learn and puff out our chest and say “no” – which would be spiritually dwarfing and keeping us from His blessings…but the richness and complete satisfaction and joy in knowing Him and getting to know Him is always worth the pain and suffering it may cost to follow Him, mistakes or no mistakes.

When you share your cares within the confines of your relationship to Jesus, you make your relationship to Him that much stronger, putting that trust in Him first, seeking Him first and finding He is the One who cares the most and really is the only One who can do anything about it. And He cares too much to let you stay where you are.

Reason #4: He shows us Himself and how real He is. God wants us to fear Him, in the sense that we live and walk in reverence of Him and submit to His Lordship. When we do that, He gets real. And you can’t see Him or have that reality that He is there in your life if you don’t share with Him your deepest concerns and smallest annoyances. It’s not until we take Him seriously that we see Him seriously. Your degree of submission and obedience to Him directly correlates to how Real He appears to you.

Like anything else in life, the more you put into it, the more you get out of it. And that isn’t to say God is something to be used. I’m saying that you reap what you sow. You get what you give. You see a relationship between your heart’s desires and His answers to your prayers. You seek His face and He will show You He’s there. I’m satisfied knowing my suffering through my mental breakdowns were not wasted because He was there. I’m completely at peace with the injustices and horrors I suffered in my mind because He saw it all. Get real with God, and He’s going to get real with you.

Reason #5 Why We Need To Cast Our Cares Onto Our God: Because when we’ve recovered, He wants us to comfort others with the comfort we’ve been given. When we come to the end of that season in life that we’ve been relieved of the burdens that were oppressing us, we will experience comfort in that relief, and the added sweetness that comes with it, because we gave it to Jesus. It is God’s promise to give us the Comforter (the Holy Spirit), and in any hardship or battle we’re in, we’re going to make it through. When we’ve made it through, it’s then our task and job to comfort others like we’ve been comforted, sharing with and encouraging them that we aren’t alone in our sufferings.

In 1 Corinthians 10:13 (“…no temptation is uncommon to man”) and 2 Corinthians 1:4 (…who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God), we see that we aren’t alone in our trials and tribulations, but that when we have endured and are comforted by the Holy Spirit, He is making all that distress worthwhile – so as to pay it forward to others in the same situation.
